From the Principal

I guess it’s official. Summer vacation is over.

I hope that all of you had a terrific one with your families.

While you were away, we were busy improving our great school.

We purchased new California Standards aligned social studies and science books. Our computer lab has been upgraded with 20 new computers, which led to the completion of the west campus library as a multimedia room. It is now an alternate computer lab, music room and classroom.

All of this was made possible by your support of the PTO fundraisers, Scrip and countless hours of volunteering.

Our goal of installing Interactive Whiteboards in the classrooms is becoming a reality due to the generosity of anonymous donors who inspired others to throw into the kitty. We need $54,000.00 for 8 classrooms. We are at $45,000.00 as of today! It is incredible that in just a week, we received so much support! Many of you have pledged donations upon your return to school. We are almost there!

It is an honor for me to serve you and your beautiful children again this year as the school principal. We are blessed with highly professional teachers who believe in our mission to partner with you in developing faith-based individuals who are prepared for the future.

Monsignor Krekelberg generously donated one of his own masterpieces of art to the TASTE Of SIERRA MADRE event this Saturday!

Easy Money from Fresh and Easy Market

September 15 - December 31, 2010. Every $20.00 spent at Fresh and Easy will generate a $1.00 back to our school.

Save your receipts and turn them into the school office.

Do the math, $200.00 of groceries results in $10.00 back to our school. Multiply that by our 200 families over 3 months. It is worth the effort.

City General Plan

The City of Sierra Madre is looking for volunteers to participate in updating the General Plan: the document that defines what our city will look like and how it will be economically managed and developed over a long period of time. The General Plan guides the policy-making of city government.

If you are interested, please submit your application to City Hall right away.

Four additional members will be added to the committee at the September 28th meeting.

Safety First for Our Students

Every year a large number of safety rules are frequently broken daily. The PTO board has been given the approval to add 1 additional safety hour per violation to the offending family’s regular 4 hr/child annual requirement. Please refrain from:

· Getting backpacks or other materials out of the trunk while in car line.

· exiting a car from the driver’s side

· dropping off, picking up students or parking in the RED ZONES

· dropping off, picking up or parking in the driveway between PAC Hall and the Church

· double parking in front of church to drop off your child on mass days (Church driveway as well).

· left turn onto Olive during drop-off or pick-up times.

· jaywalking, use the cross walks.

· throwing lunches or PE clothes over the fence, take them into the office.

· cell phone usage while in the car line or when you are on safety duty

· Ignoring the requests of the safety personnel (i.e.: not moving your car along the line or stopping intentionally in the cross walk)

We want your child safe. If another family member will be dropping off or picking up your student tell them the rules now and remind them again later. You will still be held responsible if a family member picks up your child does not follow the rules

First Trimester Virtue

Faithfulness

Happy are those who have not seen, yet still believe. ~John 20:29

We guide our students to continue to put their faith into action by bringing the Gospel spirit into every aspect of their lives as Christ Centered Individuals. (SLE1)

L.E.A.P.S.

We are very excited to offer some new classes this year.

Our new schedule on Thursday 1:45 dismissal has given us the opportunity to add some additional classes.

Please send in your L.E.A.P.S Forms as soon as possible classes are on a first come first serve basis, class sizes are limited.

Thank you Jeff Barber for the electrical work on our west field over the summer. And thank you for offering to expand the electrical outlets in the west campus multimedia room.

One more thank you to Gil Lazo, Lauro Sanchez and Pepe for the terrific remodeling job in the west library (multimedia room).

Without volunteers we would be up a creek without a paddle!
